Prague as Your New Home
We don’t need to tell you Prague is beautiful, but there’s no harm in reminding ourselves. With its Gothic cathedrals, baroque palaces and iconic bridges, Prague is a city you’ll want to explore every weekend.
Life at PBIS
At Prague British International School, we pride ourselves on offering a stimulating, supportive environment. Beyond our classrooms, families can explore neighbourhoods like Vinohrady, Vršovice and Dejvice, leafy streets filled with cafés, parks and local markets. Many parents also rave about Holešovice and Smíchov for their easy access to the centre and burgeoning craft-beer scenes.
Getting Around
Prague’s public transport is reliable and easy to use. The metro runs every 2 to 3 minutes during rush hour, while trams and buses cover pretty much every corner of the city. A 90-minute ticket costs about 40 Kč. If you’re keen on cycling, you’ll find dedicated paths alongside the Vltava, though do be cautious in winter when it can get icy.
Social Life & Dining
When school’s done, Prague comes alive. Discover craft beers in Žižkov, Vzorkovna is a favourite, or head to Karlín for dinner at Eska. For live music, look out for gigs at JazzDock or more intimate jazz nights at AghaRTA. Traditional Czech pubs remain a staple, if you want to branch out, there are now plenty of restaurants offering everything from Neapolitan pizza to vegan ramen.
Family Fun
On weekends, Stromovka and Letná parks are perfect for picnics, playgrounds and panoramic views over the city. The Prague Zoo consistently rates among Europe’s best, set aside at least half a day. If you prefer indoor options, the National Technical Museum offers interactive galleries, or you can go wild at the LEGO Museum. Come summer, families often take boat rides on the Vltava or catch open-air films at Vyšehrad.
Europe on Your Doorstep
From Prague, European weekends become routine. Vienna is roughly a four-hour train journey (approx.), Budapest about seven, and UNESCO-listed Český Krumlov under two hours by bus. Fancy a day trip, Kutná Hora’s medieval ossuary is just an hour away.
